„Bierki”, druga po „Berku” część „Kronik nierówności” Marcina Szczygielskiego to powieść napisana lekko, choć w sposób niemal brawurowy porusza sprawy, które na pewno nie są błahe. Podobnie jak pierwsza część, przełamuje pewne tabu, udowadniając, że w gruncie rzeczy podział na światy homo i hetero jest tylko umowny, bo tak naprawdę wszyscy marzymy o tym samym i tego samego pragniemy. Brawurowo opowiedziana historia dwojga ludzi, których pozornie nie łączy nic poza wzajemną nienawiścią. Paweł, typowy wielkomiejski gej, i Anna, przedstawicielka moherowych beretów, choć mieszkają w jednej kamienicy, tkwią w swoich własnych światach. Żadne z nich nie jest zdolne do zaakceptowania stylu życia drugiej strony. Eskalacja ich konfliktu nieuchronnie musi doprowadzić do dramatycznej konfrontacji… Dosadne opisy, bezkompromisowa satyra i niespodziewana delikatność rodem z filmu „Amelia” sprawiają, że „Berek” to lektura, od której nie sposób się oderwać.

For the most part, postcolonial studies, quite understandably, has privileged the political. Historical and economic processes, forms of identification (race and, to lesser extent, gender) and categories of difference have been refracted through this particular lens. The affective, however, has received scant critical attention. Love, sex and desire are usually allegorized, often standing in as sites of political conflict. The study of gender is an interdisciplinary field intertwined with feminism, queer studies, sexuality studies, postcolonial studies, and cultural studies (to name just some relevant fields).

This project calls for the consideration of gender in relation to various kinds of love (with regard, for example, to self, spirit, religion, family, friendship, ethics, nation, globalisation, environment, and so on). How do the interactions of gender and love promote particular performances of gender; conceptions of individual and collective identity; formations of community; notions of the human; understandings of good and evil?
